Liner Notes

Escape
The piece came together as a series of moods that transition from the 9 to 5 workplace experience to an
escape into a once familiar situation of freedom of expression, of ideas, and of lifestyle.

Strolling Auraria
A city nightscape, the moon over skyscrapers, and a soundscape of activity and stimulating scenes.

Autothera
Dedicated to all those who love to drive at night on long stretches of highway and contemplate the state
of their lives. This is the kind of thing I like to listen to as I traverse the great distances I often find myself within.

In My Soul
“Junk Funk” … a fun funky sorta song. Ah, c’mon!

Clishe Moosette 1.0
A “techno-esque” sort of piece where I was experimenting with soundscapes
and transitions. The name is a play on “cliché” and “musette”.

Agitacao
The word is Portugese and properly spelled “agitação”. It means agitation… in a “throwing Molitov cocktails”
kind of way. But here, it’s meant to overthrow your feet from their passivity into dance.

Qntal’s “Ludus” (Tin Ape Remix)
A steady beat and an uplifting atmospheric back mix make this track suitable for motion or chillin’.
I am particularly happy with the mountain dulcimer and new vocals I added to this track!

Robert McFadden’s “Swimming To The Moon” (Tin Ape Remix)
The original was a modern jazz number, but I wanted to take it back to the sounds of an old-school jazz quintet
in a bar, improvising and jamming while people chat amongst themselves over martinis or absinthe.

B-52s’ “Funplex” (Tin Ape Remix)
I wanted to preserve the classic B-52s sound but have it evolve over it’s course. The 12-string
and electric guitars I added provide a melancholy twist and the layered vocals mix it up a notch.
“This is a song about a broken heart and the range of emotions, one after the other, that are experienced:
from factual through confusion to anger, rebellion and melancholy acceptance…
all done to the steady B52s’ backbeat of life continuing with funky hairdoos.”

Sitpoint Epistemology
This was done as an impossible challenge to myself to create a piece of music that reflected what I learned
about feminist disability studies in a 2nd year course at Carleton University. It may be the first piece of music
ever to be created to capture some of the core concepts of this critical new integrated field of study.
I promise it’s not as challenging to listen to or understand as it was to write.
Bonus material: here is the original proposal I submitted for the piece.
And here is the description of the piece and its context that I submitted along with it.
